I'm way behind on everything DA, but I will try to get a news article out this week on the tremendous turnout we had for this haikuwrimo!

Hint: The next one will be in the Fall of this year, so not too far off!

I'd like to thank everyone for their participation and I hope everyone one did much better than I did. I hate that I could not finish this year's but life has not been too kind to me as of late. But enough of my whining, I'll snap out of it soon!

Congratulations to all who attempted this and many kudos to those who finished! I'll try to do a news article later on this week, pending how much work I have to do.

Thanks again to all of YOU!

Here are my only offerings.

A note to all that are new to haiku, please read the links in the news article below before you get started, they will help you understand a little more about this great form of poetry!

A word about haiku - MS JamesA word about haiku - by Michael James
I believe there are a few basic precepts about haiku that are largely overlooked, or just flat out just not taught in most basic literary (poetic) courses. Everyone seems to know that a haiku is supposed to be written in the structure of 5-7-5 syllables per line respectively, but there is much more going on than just a simple syllable constraint. I shall attempt to give a brief overview of the main points about haiku.
First off, the 5-7-5 syllable structure most often cited as being the sole 'structural rule' of haiku is based on the original Japanese constraint. However, the Japanese language and more specifically their word structure differ from English in a critical way when it comes to the definition of this structure. In the Japanese language, each sound unit is called an onji as opposed to our syllable. This unit of measure for a word is considerable more concise than what we use to define a syllable (typically only

The idea is to write a haiku a day for the whole month of February. This year’s theme will be Winter, but you can write your haiku or senryu about anything really. Post them to your userpage however you want, in your journal, in a deviation, or even in scraps.

The great and wonderful PoetryOD has graced us with another stamp, and made a special place for all of us in the #LitLove chatroom! So if you want a place to meet up and discuss haiku, or whatever, drop by sometime this coming month, you won't be sorry, I promise!

Oh and for more inspiration and just a hint of what can be possible during(after) the haikuwrimo, please check out moyanII's latest DD, a fantastic piece of art, if I do say so myself!

Help promote the event by posting a bit of a blurb or so in your journal.

I heard about this a bit too late to join in. But I'm looking forward to the one later this year. :) I tried to write one haiku a day throughout December some years ago and even though I didn't succeed then it was an interesting challenge.
