it seems I am writing again! Just something to keep me occupied while I am out of town and working. But whatever it takes, right?
get back into writing sometime soon. If I can ever get a break from work! I miss my poetry and hopefully, it misses me too! :)
Such a tragedy for sure. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families of the victims. Such senseless violence and inhumanity is inexcusable in every respect and form. There will be a special place on hell for this man and those who commit atrocities like this.

I know the knee-jerk reaction is to look at the guns, but really we have to look at people and the nature of Man (meaning everyone), and that is the point of what went down. The point of what went down is that sometimes people can be evil, not insane (although to most of us this is insanity), but really it's just an evil man that did an evil act. It happens everyday, in all parts of the world, and guns are just a vehicle for this atrocity, but so are cars, as cars kill more people per year than guns ever do.

In Iraq today (and for the past few months), many people were killed by IED's and suicide bombers and these people are killing their own kind. In Rwanda, almost a half a million people were killed with mainly machete's. The truth is, if someone want's to kill a lot of people, then they can do just that, guns or not. Timothy McVay killed a lot of people and never fired a shot. The World Trade Center attacks didn't involve a single gun but killed a great many, so I would caution that we need to take a step back and not just blame the weapon, but look at people.

Just to be clear, I am NOT condoning or being an apologist for anything that this monster did and that is what he is, a monster, evil to the core and I still believe that people have come to believe that there is not true evil in the world, but there is, plain and simple. We are all capable of evil, it's how we handle this urge that makes us who we are.

Again, I am NOT in any way condoning or being an apologist for anything, I am just saying that we need to recognize that people can be evil and no amount of laws or legislation can stem this issue. It's just something we have to deal with and be vigilant within our lives.

I know this is a vitriolic issue and I am not writing this to elicit some response, I am just stating my opinion, nothing more...
live, just in another world...

but I do miss my friends here, the ones that mean so much to me, the ones that inspire me to do great things...

I am trying to do great things!

Haiku and news

Journal Entry: Sun Mar 22, 2009, 8:05 AM
Seasons

Well, I finally got around to writing up a little news article on the haikuwrimo! So please got give it some love and spread the word!
news.deviantart.com/article/74…

As for myself, I am still trying to get a handle on work and life, but I am getting a little better at it. I think I can see some light at the end of the tunnel, though I'm not sure how I feel about that! ;)

Anyways, thanks for all your support in my tough times, you have all been wonderful friends to me. And as you can see, I have written a little as of late, plus taken a few pictures as well!

I drop by here everyday, but it's hard for me to comment during the week, so I see and hear all of you, I just might comment as much as I should.

 to you all!

Winter Haikuwrimo - 2009 Ended!

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 9, 2009, 10:38 AM
Seasons

I'm way behind on everything DA, but I will try to get a news article out this week on the tremendous turnout we had for this haikuwrimo!

Hint: The next one will be in the Fall of this year, so not too far off!

I'd like to thank everyone for their participation and I hope everyone one did much better than I did. I hate that I could not finish this year's but life has not been too kind to me as of late. But enough of my whining, I'll snap out of it soon!

Congratulations to all who attempted this and many kudos to those who finished! I'll try to do a news article later on this week, pending how much work I have to do.

Thanks again to all of YOU!

Here are my only offerings.

A note to all that are new to haiku, please read the links in the news article below before you get started, they will help you understand a little more about this great form of poetry!

A word about haiku - MS JamesA word about haiku - by Michael James
I believe there are a few basic precepts about haiku that are largely overlooked, or just flat out just not taught in most basic literary (poetic) courses. Everyone seems to know that a haiku is supposed to be written in the structure of 5-7-5 syllables per line respectively, but there is much more going on than just a simple syllable constraint. I shall attempt to give a brief overview of the main points about haiku.
First off, the 5-7-5 syllable structure most often cited as being the sole 'structural rule' of haiku is based on the original Japanese constraint. However, the Japanese language and more specifically their word structure differ from English in a critical way when it comes to the definition of this structure. In the Japanese language, each sound unit is called an onji as opposed to our syllable. This unit of measure for a word is considerable more concise than what we use to define a syllable (typically only

Please  the news article!
news.deviantart.com/article/68…

The idea is to write a haiku a day for the whole month of February. This year’s theme will be Winter, but you can write your haiku or senryu about anything really. Post them to your userpage however you want, in your journal, in a deviation, or even in scraps.

The great and wonderful PoetryOD has graced us with another stamp, and made a special place for all of us in the #LitLove chatroom! So if you want a place to meet up and discuss haiku, or whatever, drop by sometime this coming month, you won't be sorry, I promise!

Oh and for more inspiration and just a hint of what can be possible during(after) the haikuwrimo, please check out moyanII's latest DD, a fantastic piece of art, if I do say so myself!

Help promote the event by posting a bit of a blurb or so in your journal.

Starting February 1st, the 4th semi-annual haikuwrimo will begin!

The what?

Yes that’s right boys and girls, it’s almost time for the haikuwrimo once again!
*the crowd goes wild

For those of you who don’t know, the haikuwrimo was born in 2006 in response to the NaPoWriMo or National Poetry Writing Month. It was birthed because I wanted to try to spread the word about haiku, the unique form of Japanese verse that is probably one of the most misunderstood forms of poetry around today.

For more information on what I believe haiku truly is (as far as English haiku), please look at this small essay I wrote regarding the issue.

Another great source of information was provided by Laurence55  and can be found here:
laurence55.deviantart.com/jour…
and here
laurence55.deviantart.com/jour…

Anyway, back to the point, and that point is that the next haikuwrimo will start February 1st and run through February 28th. The crux of the haikuwrimo is to write a haiku a day for the whole month of February. Yeah, that’s right, I said it, write a haiku a day for 28 days straight. Sound simple? Well try it and see just how challenging it can be! But not only will it challenge you, hopefully it will open up the world in which you live, opening your eyes to all the wonderful beauty that we take for granted everyday!

If you want to participate, send me a NOTE and I’ll add you to my journal entry to kick off this great writing opportunity.

This year’s theme will be Winter, but you can write your haiku or senryu about anything really. Post them to your userpage however you want, in your journal, in a deviation, or even in scraps, but just write!

I hope everyone has a wonderful new year. I never make resolutions, I figure if I truly want to do something, I will, no need to make a big to do about it!

Oh and let's not forget, as moyanII pointed out here: moyanii.deviantart.com/journal… the Winter haikuwrimo in February 2009 is quickly approaching! I'll post more details in the coming weeks, so get your haiku on now!

Good news is, (I guess) is I'm writing a little again. So please, tell me what this poem means to you, or what it could mean depending on who's reading it.

Thanks you all!

Ok, so I put up a poll about when the Winter Haikuwrimo will be, and its a close race between Jan and Feb, so if you have a preference, vote NOW!

Oh and 50 people have voted so far, so all I can say is DAMN! :faint: I hope we at least that many participating this/next year!

I'm seriously leaning towards February though, just to get over the holidays. Oh and for those of you in the southern hemisphere, write about your current season (which should be summer).

English Pussy

:giggle:

Well an English cat at least!

So AbCat was kind enough to drive all the way down from Philly to see me here in NC. It was a long drive and I hope it was worth it!

Friday night, AngelaD and myself, took AbCat out to a local brewery and by the time we had some Patron a few beers, mingled with a shot of Bellevedere, AbCat was a little worse for wear. However, in the true English way, he weathered the storm and we moved on to playing billiards. I was doing well in the beginning, but I kept drinking and he didn't, so he caught me the more soused I got. But all in all we had a great night!

On Saturday, me and my two kids picked Martin up and went off to a hot air balloon festival. It was quite boring when we got there, but when they actually started launching balloons, it was quite exciting to see. We were able to be right up close to the action and seeing how hard it is to get one of those things off the ground, I'm not sure I want to ride in one any more! It was agreed by we all had a good time though. After all that, we ended the night over steak, talking about our favorite Monty Python sketches and generally just enjoying each others company.

Here's us there:

Full of hot air by MSJames

It was great to get to meet such a fine young man and I am glad he made the long trip to see me. Now I will have to return the favor someday!
